About the Discussion

CPR-TCPD Dialogues presents a panel discussion of Dr S Y Quraishi’s book – The Population Myth: Islam, Family Planning and Politics in India. The discussion will focus on three main aspects of the book- the history of family planning policy with a focus on the emergency, reflections on the compatibility of Islam and family planning and a discussion of comparative statistics on the use of contraception. The panel comprises Dr Christophe Jaffrelot, Dr Mohammad A.Khan and Dr Ashwini Deshpande. The discussion will be moderated by Dr Gilles Verniers.
